The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of two Marines who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sgt. Kevin B. Balduf, 27, of Nashville, Tenn., and Lt. Col. Benjamin J. Palmer, 43, of Modesto, Calif., died May 12 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

This incident is currently under investigation.

Sgt. Balduf was assigned to 8th Communications Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. For additional background information on this Marine, news media representatives may contact the II Marine Expeditionary Force public affairs office at 910-451-5260.

Lt. Col. Palmer was assigned to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Cherry Point, N.C. Lance Cpl. Peter J. Clore, 23, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, died May 28 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

I started this thread a few years ago to inform people of Marines that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Richard Deiters and a few others have jumped in to make sure the information is posted and I thank them for that. I get the info from DoD news releases that are emailed to me every day. What is sad is little is mentioned about these Marines except, maybe, in their local hometown newspapers. It's my feeling that media attention the equal of rock stars, politicians and other notable persons should be given to these American Heros.

Two Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based Marines were killed over the weekend in combat in Helmand province, Afghanistan, the Defense Department announced Monday.

Sgt. Marlon E. Myrie, 25, of Oakland Park, Fla., died Saturday. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines.

Gunnery Sgt. Ralph E. Pate Jr., 29, of Mullins, S.C., died Sunday. He was assigned to 2nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
