Smile Web site server update,

In the interest of providing the best service we can to our members and visitor alike we have moved our web site to a much faster server (quad core).

The site move took place over the weekend (May 10th), because of the move there are parts of the web site that are not fully functioning yet. You may experience log in problems as well as area's like the boot camp database that are still not working. These area's of the site should be back on-line within the next couple of days.

For you computer geeks we're waiting for the new DNS changes to take effect. For you none computer people I'll try and make this simple, DNS ( Domain name server) is a pointer to the web site that when you type in the domain name (www.yellowfootprints.com) it points to where the web site is hosted. The DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate around the world before the site becomes fully operational.

I know this is a pain in the butt while we ALL wait for the site to propagate but there's no way around this.

We appreciate your understanding.

Hey Chuck,

This final move wasn't my idea, our hosting service has these new quad core servers they believe will add to the speed of the site not to mention how fast this thing is growing that would include our future growth.

Look forward to the Sgt's visit.

Since the move,

I have found a number of recently entered platoon information was lost due to a corrupt database backup.

Although we do a web site server backup often there is still a chance of this kind of problem happening.
The good thing is we also keep an off-line backup of all platoon information and dated emails where you've sent in platoon information for entry into the database.

Bottom line folks, if you've sent in your platoon information and you don't find your platoon listed in the database we will be re-entering those lost platoons over the next few weeks. One way or another we will get your platoon information back into the database.

If you do not find your platoon section please feel free to reach out to me at; gmiller@yellowfootprints.com.

Thanks for your understanding and patience

Carry On Marines!!

Tell me about it! My XP-Pro SP3 got corrupted. Microsoft Support has been less than stellar on helping me out of the problem. So, I came up with my own gameplan and that is working out for me. It has taught me a lesson I actually knew for many years. Make sure you make frequent back-ups. No matter how reliable today's computers are, they are never 100%.

You are back on top again. It only took you about 5 years to out grow your server this time. Just enough time for Jack to upgrade a couple more operating systems for his computer. He should be on Windows 8.0 or 8.1 or something by now.

We should know how to do these server moves by now. But links always have to be updated and no matter how many times you practice some files and folders always get lost or mixed up.

I must say without a doubt this is by far the biggest group of websites I have ever been involved with.

Carry on men...... And you ladies too.

Thank God we have you and Jon wokring on the iste or it would still be on the old SLOW server.

For you that are searching our boot camp database you should now that during the web site move we did loose some pictures in the processes. The good thing is we have backups that in some cases must be manually uploaded form our OFF line database. I'll be working that end this weekend 4/11/15.

If you find one of your pictures is missing please send us an email at (yellowfootprints1970@yahoo.com)

We are still working to get our old email accounts restored, in the meantime you can contact us at the above address.
