Donald David Mosner, age 82, resident of Henderson, Nevada for the past 22 years, previously of Tinley Park, IL., passed away September 28, 2018 at his home. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy, the light of his life and his parents, David and Alva Mosner. He is survived by his three daughters, Deborah Wright (Steve), Patrice Mosner and Cynthia Darling. He has five grandvhidren and five great-grandchildren. Sergeant Ronald Mosner had many accomplishments. He honorably served as a United States Marine, enlisting and serving in the U.S.Marine Corps for eight years. During the Korean War, he was assigned to the Army-Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), supporting the 1st Marine Division. In this capacity, he was often called upon to call air strikes and naval gunfire against the Communist Chinese from exposed and precarious positions for which he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze with "V", Navy Commendation Medal with "V", two Purple Hearts, and the Combat Action Ribbon. After Korea, assigned to Camp Lejeune, N.C. again with ANGLICO. He was deployed to Puerto Rico, ended his active duty with the 1st Marine Brigade in Hawaii.
Following his service, Ronald returned to the Chicago Area in 1959, he became a master carpenter and raised a family.
Ronald was an active member of the Marine Corps League. While serving, he helped revive the Black Mountain Detachment when he retired to Henderson in the mid-1990s. He served in every capacity at the Detachment level and stepped up to become Paymaster and later Commandant for the Department (State-level) of Nevada. Ronald was also a member of Devil Dogs Pound 176, Pack of Nevada, degree of Devil Dog, Dog Robber of Pound 176 and Pack of Nevada, He played a significant role as Auditor in restructuring the finances of #186, was active in fund raiser for the Black Mountain Detachment, most of which was for the youth program Devil Pups of Southern Nevada, and a Southern Nevada Devil Pups and Youth Leadership Authority Honorary Board Member. In addition, Ronald was awarded the honor Marine of the Year for the Department of Nevada, and was a life member of the Marine Corps League, the Korean War Veterans, and the VFW.
Sgt. Ron Mosner was an absolute and unequivocal backbone of the Southern Nevada Devil Pups (SNDP) program, for the past twenty years. The extensive success of the program is because of Sgt. Mosner's relentless commitment to benefiting teens in the Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City communities. Sgt. Mosner consistently dedicated his time supporting many veteran's organizations. However, besides his eternal love for his wife, Nancy, SNDP was his passion and it showed through a variety of measures. His dedication ensured hundreds of teens their attendance in the ten-day Devil Pups encampment. Additionally, Sgt. Mosner would spend his own persona; time and money to acquire supplies needed for teens in need.
He was loved and respected by many in the Las Vegas community for his no-nonsense approach and ability to get things done. His absence will be felt by many for years to come. His favorite statement "Get off your ass and on your dying feet"
Semper Fidelis and DPNQ Marine!
As you can see, Ron was very active in the Marine Corps League ov Nevada, especially the Southern Nevada Devil Pups, which kept him very young at heart.
