Yeppers!!

and after checking the boot camp database, that means that your platoon number should be 28__ or 29__.

Platoons 183 and 385 graduated at the beginning of January, 1962. Second Battalion numbers would be running in the same sequence as the First and Third Battalion numbers. We're getting very close to nailing this one down!!

Zebra29er....

We've run into a snag. There were no Second Battalion recruit platoons that graduated on 14 January 1962. Platoons 281, 282, 283, and 284 graduated on January 5th; and platoons 285, 286, 287, and 288 graduated on January 29th.

Can you Private Message me the exact wording of the first couple of entries from your Record of Service? Maybe you actually graduated on January 5th and didn't take the 10 days leave so that you could transfer directly to your school?

Nancy

glad to be of service, Zebra29er...

TR dates......

Okay... TR dates would normally be worked up before the actual graduation day (once the orders were received). In my day, there would be a final admin class a day or so before graduation where the recruits would reverify that all the information in their records was correct. Also, the drill instructors would pick up the service records the night before graduation.

TR dates can be changed, i.e., lined out and initialed by the admin clerk because of a last minute change to the "report by" date, etc. I've seen it where the night before recruit graduation a recruit did something "dumb" and got put on legal hold. That recruit's TR date was changed using the line out and initial method....

Sometimes a recruit would have to hang around for a while after graduation.

TR dates can be the "report no later than ____ date MINUS applicable travel time plus leave.

TR dates can be specified on the orders.

But normally, recruit TR dates would be entered as the actual scheduled graduation date from boot camp.

Any chance of finding a WM graduation book for Plt 7b grad Jun 15 1978. I had 2, gave one to my recruiter I was his 1st WM. Ex hubby was in car accident and had my book in the car, destroyed. Went back to recruiter and there had been a flood in the office and that book was destroyed. All I have is the graduation pic (the one you have posted). Please let me know if you ever run across it or where I can get one. Thanks for the help.

Any chance you can point out your location in the platoon picture? We'd like to overlay yor name at that position if that's ok.

Grad Plt from MCRD PI

Been following your posts to Zebra29er and have found the following from my SRB. I started in 3rd Bn on 6 Aug 1964 (that's a JD date) went to hospital end of Sept and have a new JD date into 1st Bn of 2 Oct 1964. Last posting is 29 Oct 1964 as a TR (this is when I left PI to go to Camp Geiger). Can you help me identify my platoon number and possibly locate book or pictures.
Thanks Ray

from what you've written here, it would appear that you graduated right around platoons 176, 177, 178, and 179. Can you remember one of your DIs names???

MCRD PISC Plt 2068 - grad 1st week of Jan 1968

The platoon picture is missing at PI as well. Must've had a spook in our midst.

SDI Gy Sgt W. Hicks; DI Staff Sgt R.E. Murphy; DI Sgt Vanzant

Is there a way to tell what plts graduated on Aug 6 1954. I was in 2ed bn at PI from 19 May 1954 until 6 Aug 1954 and can not remember my plt number, I think that the head DI was SGT Flynn.
