Post James Joseph Galvin, 87, Leawood, KS

James Joseph Galvin, 87, of Leawood, KS, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010, at his home. The Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5601 Woodson, Mission, KS, where visitation will begin after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the church. James was born April 15, 1923, to Edward and Fanny Galvin in Kansas City, MO. He had been employed at Nyman Manufacturing Company, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus. He had coached 3&2 and Cub Ball (baseball) and was fondly known as "Grandpa Jim" at South Park Elementary School.
Mr. Galvin was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ed, Frank & John Robert. He is survived by this wife of 56 years, Helen M. Galvin of the home; four children, Denise Canon (Milling), Lenexa, KS, Dr. Debra Galvin (Michael), Shawnee, KS, Michael Galvin (Jennifer), Mission, KS, and Mary Ann Vogt (Rich), Shawnee, KS; sister, Helen Marie Stevens, Kansas City, MO; ten grandchildren, Sarah, Jeff, Kevin, Brian, Kevin, Matthew, Andrew, Michele, Joey and Emma; great grandson, Jace. Jim's family would like to thank all of the staff at Grace Gardens and Catholic Charities Hospice. Their tender care truly made the last years of Jim's life truly extraordinary.
