Janet graduated from Poly High in 1936. She worked various jobs before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1943. She spent the war years in Washington D.C. They both returned to San Francisco after the war and met on a blind date in early 1946. They were married on July 7, 1946. Dad worked at Traveler's Insurance Co. while attending law school at night while Mom began raising our family. Dad worked many years as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Oakland and then for the law firm of Berry and Berry. He was an avid reader and loved to walk the hills above El Sobrante where they lived for the past 50 years. Mom was the president of our school P.T.A for two years and had an active life in the community. She worked for many years as the school secretary at Bay View Elementary in the Richmond Unified School District. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain family and friends with special theme dinners. She also had a passion for thoroughbred race horses and was an owner with the stables of Batman and Sharp for 37 years, racing horses at Golden Gate Fields and Bay Meadows. Gunga and Papa, as they came to be known, each had their own interests but were always together on a common ground of love and respect for nearly 63 years. Mom enjoyed her travels throughout the world with her good friend of over 60 years, Billy Lilly. Dad always loved the art of debate and would offer up a significant poem on any subject Mom passed away on March 18, 2009 and Dad followed on March 31, 2009. They will be deeply missed. A celebration is planned for early June. Friends and Family will be notified. Contact number is (916) 543-7217.
