I checked the posting configurations for a few people and didn't find any differences. I do think the problem is on the individual's computers. Something isn't up-to-date either in the browser or in Javascript functions.

Another thing to think about Gary ...

You are still on VBulletin 3.8.4

I was on 3.8.6 up till I updated and went to the 4.0 version ...

I believe they even yet came out with a 3.8.7 before they started concentrating heavily on version 4.0 ...

Many of the 3.0 versions are still going strong ... as should yours ... but I'm just looking at all the avenues here. I doubt that still being back at 3. is causing this but one never knows what patches may or may not do for ya.

It does sound like a java script situation and that alone combined with various browsers can really be a pain ...

On my site ... I have only three members that are using Macs with the Safari Browser ...

In the 3.0 version they all worked fine .... After I went to 4.0 upgrade they all three had the same identical problems (which were minor but problems none the less) ...

They were all told to get rid of Safari and switch to Mozilla Firefox ...

Did they listen to me? NO

Then ... one of them did listen and tried it and Walaah ... Problem solved.

Then ... the one that did told the others how wonderful things were and the other two then followed suit .. and again .. Walaah

If they would have listened to me in the first place I would not have had to go though with what I did to get them straightened out and I visited both VB.com and VB.org asking questions and getting assistance and they all said the same thing ... But the Mac users were adament .. their browser (Safari) was fine and not the problem ... Not

All these people think that just because they have ONE browser that they have to always stay with it ... not true ...

Most browsers are free downloads .. don't cost a penny ... find the one that works best and use it as your default .. you can still use the others too

But ... they don't like change ... so if thats the case then they will be left behind ... its that simple.

I am no pro by no means and I learn something new every day ... but at least I am willing to TRY to better things instead of just sitting there like a bump on a log and whining about the problem.

As you know,

I have been fighting this 4.0 upgrade since it came out. I am not one to take a chance on upgrading to something new and blow years of work out of the water. When I am sure this new version works I'll stay with the old version casue I know it works.

As to this browser issue, I couldn't agree more with it possibly being the browser or better yet the Java script being the problem.

Like I said, I'll try the editing when I get home on my wifes computer and see what happens.

Thanks Rick for taking the time out of your busy schedule to look at this.

I'm having

the same issues on my wifes computer, can't control the mouse to edit. I'll check into the Java script to see if it needs to be updated.

Gary, I am having that problem with the mouse while in edit, and now I have to hit the change edit mode icon to be able to do any typing in the working window... I first noticed the mouse problem after hit so off the wall combination of keys while trying to touch type. I now have the problem on a laptop and desk top that are running XP and IE... My netbook laptop is running Windoze 7(STARTER version) and has the same problem... The two laptops are running IE version 8 w/sp3.

Meanwhile on the desktop, IE was disabled by the Anti-virus software(AVG) and my old ISP(Juno) is running their version of IE7(I Think) and it also has this problem...

Maybe I need to plan a road trip to Seneca with both of my laptops... I'm in KC and it's not to far to Rick's and work on it from there...

Richard.

I've tried Edit with my computer and my wife's three computers and haven't had any problems. I actually edit a post every day that I originally made back in 2009 and have never had a problem. I do have an idea about what is the difference on my login and i'm going to change something in my profile and try it out before I suggest it may be the problem.

BINGO!!!
I've always preferred to use vBulletin 3 Style in my viewing of the YFP pages. I changed it to vBulletin 2 Style and ended up getting the problem! It disabled my mouse functions in the edit screen for this message. When I changed back to vBulletin 3 Style, I was able to edit this post with no problem. Since, I think, vBulletin 2 Style is the default for most users, the problem has to be in the configuration for that style.

Hey Rick,

Sounds like you got a house guest on his way. ha ha

Jack, I'll try changing the theme and see what that gets me...I'LL BE BACK

OK I'm in theme 3 and the problem has gone away, I'm able to move around the thread with the mouse without an issue.

Jack you hit the nail on the head with this one.....

Rick, can you take a look at theme 2 which is the main theme and see if you can find what might be the problems.....thanks

Gary

I'll see what I can do Gary ...

I may have to go to VB.org or VB.com and ask over there too ...

In the meantime folks can simply change their style over to 3 till we get this ironed out ...

Wait One Here ....

I just noticed that I am currently in Style #2 ... and mine works

So I changed to #3 ... Still works fine ...

Hmmmmmmmmmm

I'll ask around anyway .....

Seems I am not having any problems at all with either 2 or 3

I use Mozilla Firefox (Version 3.8.6) .... NOT version 4 and I do not want to go to 4 yet even tho I am asked ...

Am I the only one here running Mozilla on this problem???

Just been following the conversation you guys have been having. I thought I would add my two cents if that is ok. I haven't had any problems editing any posts. I can put the cursor anywhere with the mouse and edit. I am running the same version of mozilla you are six. By the way I really like your patch. Where can I get one? I have looked on Sgt Grit, but haven't seen anything like it.
Mike

Although

I've never been a fan of Mozilla I'll give it a try and see how it effects my editing.

Your not going to beleive this....

your not going to believe this. IF I right click my mouse button ANYWHERE on this screen I get THROWN into a new screen that brings my to THE FALLEN web site. I am now running firefox, if I try to put the curser ANYWHERE within the text I again thrown into the Fueled by the fallen site.

OK this is crazy, I'm going back to IE and see what happens......see ya

OK I'm back in I.E. and although I am not being kicked out to the Fallen any longer I still can not use my mouse. I've run virus protection software (Norton) and it's found nothing. I just need better drugs!! ha
