MCRD Parris Island April 23-June 24, 1969 Platoon 262(*)
* Ok, I admit this was a long time ago, and my memory may be way off, but I recall we started life as Platoon 262, and it was changed a couple of weeks before graduation. However, the old brain cells will NOT recall what it was changed to, if it indeed was changed! I know it was 262 from screaming it in the smoking circle when the smoking lamp was lit, but that could have been before or after the change. Some things are hard to forget.

I know the Senior DI was SSgt Dunleavy, and I seem to recall one of the other DI's was Sgt Cole.

If anyone can give me the straight skinny on this, I would appreciate it. I have done many searches, and looked through many lists and pictures, and have found nothing but one reference to SSgt Dunleavy, from a Marine who I believe was in his next Platoon after we graduated.

I am trying to find out:
1) What was our graduation platoon number?
2) Is there a graduation picture/yearbook available anywhere for my platoon?

Any good g2 really appreciated!

Semper Fi and Best Regards,
KB Cpl USMC 1969-1973

Talking Platoon Number GUESS ....

CPL KB, my best guess would be that the number of platoons going through 2nd Bn at PI had reached 100 and since the first digit is the BN number they changed them by inserting a 0 after the BN number. In your case the number probably went from 262 to 2062. And if the platoon numbers were being assigned in order of arrival after Jan. your platoon probably started in Late JUNE at the earliest. most likely in JULY. I know since I was in Platoon 255 in 1965 at PI and we formed up in the last week of July.

Thanks for the guess devildog-64012. I will do a search for 2062 and see if that turns up anything.

As for the time frame...it is possible. I really do not recall exactly when I went active, as I had joined on the delayed entry program.

I appreciate the guess. Will update here if I find anything.

Heh, it does not appear it is that easy. I did a search and it appears that platoons in that number range (206x) were quite late in 1969, with 2058 in October. It would appear that somewhere around 205x would be the right date, as 2049 shows as March on another site. Whether that is formed or graduated is not clarified on that site.

Will keep looking.

I am now truly totally confused. From searches, it appears that 2059 graduated 4 Feb 69 (and 99% sure one of my DI's was a DI for it...Sgt T. D. Coles). That SHOULD put 262 aka 2062 somewhere near the right date.

HOWEVER 3064 appears to have graduated 17 Feb 69, so either the 3rd Btln had a lot more platoons, or the numbers do not closely match across the different training Btlns. Platoon 373 appears to have graduated 19 Jul 69.

So I guess I will just have to keep looking...though I get more and more confused as to what to look for.

Jan-30-2014 I finally sent a request for my DD214 to NPRC to get my active duty date. Since I live out of country, calling places is difficult. So, hopefully I will get an update on my active duty date, which will point me to the correct platoon number. If I understand correctly from another post on this site, the DD214 will not include the platoon number, but at least it will give me a more precise date. In the meantime, still looking.

Ok, so I received the DD214 from NPRC, and I was not that far off. Active duty commenced Apr 21, 1969. While it does not show the platoon number, it does show it was formed Apr 23, 1969 and completed June 24, 1969. So at least I was within a month or so of being correct, so maybe the memory is not totally gone yet. However, I am now even second guessing the memory of the platoon number, based on some of the info posted in my previous message.

Be that as it may, many searches and research has led me no closer to finding a platoon picture. If any of you come across anything regarding platoon 262 or 2062, or platoons with SSgt Dunleavy or Sgt Coles, I would most certainly appreciate hearing about it.

Does anyone know if there is an email address that may be used to contact MCRD PI to see if they may have platoon pictures in their archives?
Semper Fi, and many thanks!

Ok, so I think it really IS 262. I looked at the database here, knowing the graduation date on my platoon shown on the DD214 was 24 Jun, 1969, and found 261 graduated 23 Jun 1969, so I assume 262 would be right at the same time. Also, I found SSgt Dunleavy in Platoon 226 that graduated 19 Apr, 1969, so would have been the platoon before ours. Getting closer, but still no X ring.

Any help appreciated!

Semper Fi and Best Regards,
KB Cpl USMC 1969-1973

One suggestion for the database columns: if known, formed date, graduation date and Senior DI would be very useful as display columns.

Post grad book or pict 1966 PLt 2074

Looking for pics or info about Marines from plt 2074 1966 PI. Remember Staff Sgt. Edwards was senior DI. I was plt. secretary if that rings any bells. Staged in August graduated in Oct. Think Doyne was right guide and dress blues. I can remember faces not to many names.:

Cpl Miller: Could you possibly move Platoon 262 out of May, 1969 and into either April (formed) or June (graduated)? Since Platoon 261 is listed in June (same series as 262), I assume you put them in by graduation date.

Thanks and Semper Fi.

Yes graduation date is how we enter data.

Per your request I've deleted the the May entry and created a June entry.

It would seem that the gods conspire against those who try too hard. After many, many searches on many, many websites, I am STILL looking for a book or picture for Platoon 262! Just wanted to let you guys know I was still around in case anyone sees anything. The closest I have found was some 'reprint' book on Amazon for the correct time frame, but the guy did not print any pertinent information re: platoon numbers or the like, and did not respond to a question, so no joy.

Smile Need 07-1976 MCRD PI Graduation Book

All my childhood photos and adult photos were destroyed in a house fire and I am trying to replace everything for my kids. I have nothing from my past except for what I have been able to replace state, federal records etc. but no pictures at all. I know that I entered Parris Island 4th of July weekend. I thing I was 1st Battalion but not sure. Name is Theodore Ferguson. I hope someone can help me, lost everything and at my age it's hard to replace some of the old memories.
