Merrell Gene Eversole, NV.

Merrell Gene Eversole passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at home, in the arms of his loving wife and surrounded by his family, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Gene, as he was known, was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Belleville, Illinois, to Ralph and Camilla (Gabel) Eversole. After high school, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was eventually stationed at Lake Mead Base, Nev. It was there he met and married the love of his life, Vanda Lois O'Leary, in 1957. After Gene's ice in the Marine Corps, he was employed by Reynolds Electric at the Nevada Test Site for a short time before joining the Clark County Sheriff's Office. He served an honorable 31 year career in multiple assignments as a Police Officer, including, Homicide Detective, Substation Commander of McCarran Airport, for both the Clark County Sheriff's Office and LVMPD, Watch Commander and retired as a Lieutenant in charge of Special Events with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Gene, a devoted husband and father, and his wife, raised three children in Las Vegas. Many a summer was spent loading up the Happy Traveler camper and taking off to visit grandparents in Utah and Illinois and to show his family the country he loved. Afterretirement, Gene was happiest at his cabin in Utah, watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball games, attending his weekly breakfast with his fellow LVMPD retires and spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids! He was loved greatly and will be sorely missed. Gene was preceded in death by his beloved son, Gary Merrell Eversole; his parents, Ralph and Camilla (Gabel) Eversole; and two brothers, William and Robert Eversole. His dog, Nestle, also waits for him at the Rainbow Bridge, she was his favorite "person." He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vanda (O'Leary); daughters, Kathlyn Jaramillo (Jr) and Tracy Rulz (Dennis); 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. In honoring of Merrell "Gene" Eversole's life and legacy visitation will be 2 - 3 p.m. Friday, July 7, with memorial service following, both at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1725 Palora Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89169.
