Capt Edward Dean Kemmis, USMC, (Ret.), 67, Jacksonville, NC

Retired Marine Corps Capt. Edward Dean Kemmis, 67, of Jacksonville died Dec. 7, 2001, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Northwoods United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Bundy officiating. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

He was retired from the Marine Corps and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. He was a member of Northwoods United Methodist Church for more than 30 years and was an active volunteer for the Onslow Community Ministries soup kitchen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Leslie Kemmis and Mary Coral White; and his son, Richard Patrick Kemmis.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Kemmis; three daughters, Robin Kemmis of Fuquay-Varina, Jill Kemmis Powell of Jacksonville and Patti Kemmis Stocks of Camp Lejeune; three sisters, Kathy Stanford of Ortonville, Mich., Mary Stanford of Lima, Ohio, and Margie Murphy of Jacksonville; one brother, Robert Kemmis of Orange, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Memorials may be made to the Onslow County Ministries soup kitchen, 600 Court St., Jacksonville, N.C. 28540.

Capt. Kemmis was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. He was a member of Northwoods United Methodist Church for more than 30 years and was an active volunteer for the Onslow Community Ministries Soup Kitchen. Though volunteering brought him much pleasure, his family and the love that they shared was the greatest joy in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Leslie Kemmis and Mary Coral White; and his son, Richard Patrick Kemmis.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Pat Kemmis of the home; three daughters, Robin Kemmis White and her husband, Rusty, of Fuquay-Varina; Jill Kemmis Powell of Jacksonville; and Patti Kemmis Stocks and her husband Jim, of Camp Lejeune; three sisters, Kathy Stanford of Ortonville, Mich., Mary Stanford of Lima, Ohio, and Margie Murphy of Jacksonville; one brother, Robert Kemmis of Orange, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Faith White, Joshua Powell, Jacob Powell, Benjamin Stocks and Matthew Stocks.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Onslow Community Ministries — Soup Kitchen, 600 Court St., Jacksonville, N.C. 28540.
