William Louis Brown Sr., 81, Dayton, OH

Mr. William Louis Brown Sr. beloved husband of Mary E. Brown departed this life on Sunday, December 17, 2006. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Douglas and Virgie Brown and his brother, Dr. Douglas E. Brown. William Brown was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 11, 1925. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Social Administration at the Ohio State University and completed his graduate studies in Social Administration at the same university. While a student at the Ohio State University he was called to service during WWII for the U.S. Marine Corps. He served with honor in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and was honorably discharged in February, 1946. William Brown served the City of Dayton with distinction as the Director of Probation for over thirty years. In addition, William Brown taught Sociology part-time at Sinclair Community College for eleven years. Through the years William Brown served on many Boards and Committees in the Dayton Community. He was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and was a member of the Men's Choir. He was also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a Carrafella (Carrousels Inc.) for over forty years. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 54 years, Mary E. Brown; four devoted children, Karen (Michael), Kendall (Bishop William Lash), The Reverend Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas (Lamont) and William L. Brown Jr., J.D. William Brown was the loving grandfather of eight grandchildren, Kimberly D., Brittany K., William A. IV, Minounique, Michael C., Matthew C., Joshua W. and Desmond E.; sister-in-law, Jeanne Armstrong Brown; loving niece and nephew, Atty. Rhonda Brown and Toby and their son Avril Olson; dear cousins, Dr. Chester J. Jones and Dora Jones; William Brown also leaves to mourn many, many loving and longtime friends in Dayton and Columbus, Ohio. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Thursday, December 21, 2006 at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 5301 Free Pike. Fr. Benjamin Speare-Hardy II, officiating. Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas, eulogist. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of William L. Brown, Sr. to the St. Margaret's Building Fund. Services Respectfully Rendered by H.H. Roberts. William L. Brown will always be remembered as a kind and giving person whose gifts not only extended to those he loved but also to the community that he served.
