Cadwell "Caddie" R. Mevis, Jr., 77, Three Lakes, WI

Cadwell "Caddie" R. Mevis, Jr., age 77, a resident of Three Lakes, WI, since 1987, and a former resident of Racine, WI, died on Tuesday, Jan 12, 2010, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 18, 1932, in Racine, to Cadwell R. Sr and Julia Mevis. "Caddie" served as a firefighter for 28 years, retiring as a captain in 1986, with the Racine Fire Department. He work concurrently at Ludwig Manufacturing in Racine. He also worked for Young Radiator in Racine prior to his firefighting service. He enjoyed boating and fishing on Moccasin and Spirit Lakes, bowling, and was even learning to be a pilot. He was known as a skilled carpenter/craftsman and handyman, and he liked keeping busy. Caddie served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the Three Lakes American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife and first love, Judith "Judy" Ellen Mevis (nee Nerad) in 1991; brother, John in 1992; and his parents. He is survived by his children, Gerald Mevis of Racine, Michael (Margie) Mevis of Appleton, WI, Joseph (Becky) Mevis of Oshkosh, WI, and Cynthia (Steve) Petersen of Franksville, WI; brother, Leo (Arlene) Mevis of Juneau, WI, Kathleen Mevis of Racine, and Henry Mevis of Eagle River, WI; grandchildren, Ian Mevis, Isaac Mevis, Elliott Mevis, Nicholas Petersen, Jacob Petersen, Camilla Mevis, Eva Mevis and Kaden Mevis; special friend and soul mate, Roberta Bigalk of Three Lakes; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Jan. 15, 2010, at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, with visitation held one hour prior to services. A graveside service will be held in the spring with Military Honors at the Three Lakes Cemetery.

Our dad was loyal and dedicated to his family and will always hold a special place in our hearts and in the hearts of his grandchildren. We will miss him dearly.

Arrangements by Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River.
