William Edwin "Willie" Jeffers, 66, Edgewater, MD

William Edwin "Willie" Jeffers, 66, a 31-year resident of Edgewater, Md., passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Jeffers graduated from Clearspring High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, and received the Purple Heart, Vietnamese Service Medal and Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expedition Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Marksmanship badge.
After his military service, he worked for and retired from the General Services Administration as well as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 26. He was past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 482 in Forestville. Md., and was a member of American Legion Post 226 in Mayo, Md. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing pool, darts and enjoyed nature.
Born Aug. 25, 1942, in Seymour, he was the son of Charles W. and Eva Mikel Jeffers.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Lea Jeffers, Edgewater, whom he married in January of 1970; son, Michael Wayne (Kelly) Jeffers, Laurel Fork, Va.; daughters, Brenda Lea (Michael) Spies, and Melissa Ann Jeffers, both of Edgewater, Md.; his siblings, Charles Jeffers, Spring Hill, Fla., Ronnie Jeffers, Pensacola, Fla., Charlotte Perry, Seymour, and Mary Stuckwisch, Brownstown; grandchildren, Sierra, Megan and Ryan Spies; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Thomas and Fred Jeffers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, Md.
Interment will take place at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, Md.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Willie's life from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
