Vernon Turley Long, 89, Lexington, KY

Vernon Turley Long, 89, passed away Sun morning, May 10, 2009, at home in Lexington. Mr. Long was born on May 22, 1919, in Madison County, to the late Jasper and Mamie (Baker) Long. He retired as Executive Vice President of the Bluegrass Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Lexington after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Park United Methodist Church in Lexington, a Kentucky Colonel, and was a veteran of WWII, where he had served faithfully in the U. S. Marine Corps. He is survived by one daughter, Marsha (John) Pendley of Lexington; one son, Michael Turley (Jo Ann "Jody") Long of Winchester; one son-in-law, Don Guinnip of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Kasiborski, Daniel Long Pendley, Amy Elizabeth Long, Courtney Rae Long and Madison Jae Long, Sarah Frances Jeter and David Todd Guinnip, as well as five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Boyd (Reeves) Long, a daughter, Janet Lee Guinnip, a special uncle, Clifford "Tick" Long and a special friend, Nelson Curry. Services will be conducted at 11am Wed, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, with Rev. Woody Berry officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Pendley, Don Guinnip, Daniel Pendley, David Guinnip, Jeff Wright, Jim Harris and William Robert Nantz. Honorary bearers will all employees of the Bluegrass Coca-Cola Bottling Company, past and present. Visitation will be after 10am until service time on Wed at the funeral home. The family of Mr. Long benefited greatly from the help of the staff and nurses of Hospice of the Bluegrass, and in lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.
