Capt Houston Enoch Walker USMC (ret), 77, New Orleans, LA

Retired United States Marine Corps Captain Houston Enoch Walker passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana with Marian, his loving wife and best friend by his side. Captain Walker was born in New Orleans on May 5, 1931. He was the son of Houston E. Walker and Mayme L. Bond. After graduating from Fortier High School, Captain Walker immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps September 11, 1947. Shortly after his enlistment, he was assigned to the newly formed Nuclear Weapons Program in New Mexico. Captain Walker saw action in the Korean War where he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Captain Walker also saw action in the Vietnam War, where he was promoted to the rank of Captain. In his 30 year Marine Corps career, Captain Walker earned many decorations and awards. Among them, The Marine Corps Commendation with Combat "V", The Marine Corps Achievement with Combat "V", The Combat Action Medal, 5 Marine Corps Good Conduct Awards, 2 Presidential Citations and 2 Naval Unit Citations. Also The Korean Service Medal with 3 Campaigns, The Vietnam Service Medal with 8 Campaigns, 2 National Defense Awards, United Nations Korean Service Award, Korean and Vietnam Presidential Citations, The Korean War Service Medal and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Captain Walker was inducted into the Marine Corps Mustang Association, an organization created on November 10, 1985, to honor all Marine Corps service personnel who rise through the ranks of enlisted to the rank of officer. Captain Walker served in all of the enlisted grades as well as officer. The title of a Marine of this status is, and shall evermore be… Mustang. Captain Walker retired from The United States Marine Corps with an Honorable Discharge, in September 11, 1977. After his retirement from The Marine Corps, Captain Walker attended and earned a degree from San Diego State University. Captain Walker is survived by his wife, Marian Vaccari Walker; his sons, Gary Walker of Santa Ana, CA, Craig Walker of Orange, CA and his daughter, Susan Malborough of Slidell, LA; his step children, Christian Vaccari and his wife Pat of Covington, LA, Jon Vaccari and Steve Fleming of New York City, NY, Nori Vaccari Starck of Venice, Italy and Debra Ludlow of Baltimore, MD; nephews Jon C. Maggio and Markee Bourgoies; and niece Mini Denanno. He was brother to the late James Walker and the late Mary Bourgoies. His grandchildren include, Victoria Vaccari, Nicholas Vaccari, Daniel Vaccari, K Starck, Lago Starck, Giovanni Fleming-Vaccari, Ashely Little, John Sampognaro, and Gabriel Sampognaro. Captain Houston Enoch Walker, you honorably dedicated your service to the United States Marine Corps, and to The United States of America to keep her free. You fought the good fight. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 724 Camp Street at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008. Entombment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, and on Saturday at the church beginning at 12:00 p.m. For those so desiring, memorials in honor of Retired United States Marine Corps Captain Houston Enoch Walker may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
