PERSONAL: Born and raised in Milwaukee area ... served in United States Marines from 1946-1966, seeing duty in Korea and a brief tour in Vietnam ... also was on various aircraft carriers ... retired after career at Briggs and Stratton

"Savage, who has been referred to as an ambassador for the sport, has been actively promoting it for 35 years and is currently a volunteer for United States Speedskating. He also has served as a growth and development chairman for the Amateur Speedskating Union.

In addition, Savage has worked with the Badger State Games for the past 12 years, serving on and off as commissioner for speedskating.
