Post Leland O. Sexton , 87, Raytown Mo

Leland O. Sexton was born July 1, 1922, in Clarksville, Ark., to Arch and Nellie Sexton, and passed from this world on February 17, 2010, at the age of 87. He was fascinated as a youth by flight, was president of the Central Junior High Aviation Club and won a model building competition for his aircraft in an April 1936 contest. He married Vera Mae Braton of Kansas City, Mo., on July 26, 1942.
In March 1943, Leland enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served with pride in WW II alongside his fellow Death Rattlers of the VMF-323, based on the island of Okinawa in the Pacific Ocean.
Upon returning from military service in 1946, Leland rejoined his wife and their first-born son, Leland "Sonny" Sexton. Leland and Vera welcomed their daughter Deborah in 1947. The family was completed with the birth of their son Mark Sexton in 1955. In 1946, Leland and his brother Lowell started Sexton Metalcraft. Leland purchased his brother's shares in the company in 1967 to become sole owner and president until 2004, when he retired and sold the business. Leland pursued his childhood love of flight and became an instrument-rated pilot in 1963. Leland accepted the Lord into his life in 1953, at Raytown Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory: his wife of 67 years, Vera; his children Leland "Sonny" Sexton, Debbie Glenn (Louis) and Mark Sexton (Sherri); 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great- great-grandchildren, and his sister Jeanie Lamb (Donald). Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Beasley, and a brother, Lowell Sexton. A memorial visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 21, at the Park Lawn Chapel, Hillcrest Road at 83rd Street, Kansas City, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the City Union Mission. (Arr.: Park Lawn Funeral Home, 816-523-1234)
