40 Years Ago, September 25, 1969
Randy Stoeckel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stoeckel of Minong, has entered basic training with the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He graduated from Northwood High School in May.

60 Years Ago, October 6, 1949:
Robert Harkness of Cumberland has been presented with the Navy Cross for distinguished service and heroism while serving as a gunnery sergeant in the Marine Corps. He was previously presented with the Silver Star for gallantry in action while fighting on Iwo Jima.

40 Years Ago, October 9, 1969:
Pfc. Michael Olsen, son of Mrs. George Olsen, was wounded September 12 near the DMZ in Vietnam and has been awarded the Purple Heart. He is hospitalized in Chu Lai, Vietnam.

40 Years Ago, December 11, 1969
Marine First Lieutenant David K. Schmitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Schmitz of Spooner, was recently awarded the Air Medal while serving with the First Marine Aircraft Wing in Vietnam.
