Luther "Bill" Lashley USMC (ret), 75, Jacksonville, NC

JACKSONVILLE - Luther "Bill" Lashley, "The Peanut Man," age 75, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Onslow Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Jack Marshburn officiating. Visitation will be immediately following the service with private burial Wednesday. Bill Lashley served in the United States Marine Corps and retired after 20 years of service to our country. He received a degree in Business Administration from Coastal Carolina Community College. Over the years he has enjoyed serving in our community as a clown, an auctioneer, and as an appliance repair man, and the "Peanut Man." When you saw him, you rarely left empty-handed! If you needed anything and he had it, it was yours. The last few years were filled with much joy as he put together the "Over the Hill Band" which played at Senior Citizen Centers, Flea Markets, and every Saturday at various Nursing Homes across Eastern North Carolina. He loved people and singing. While he was playing he always encouraged everyone around to participate. He loved to see them smiling and having a good time! He never met a stranger! He leaves so many friends and family behind longing to see him again in Heaven. Daddy was always so proud of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Rivers Lashley and Five Children: Kathy Parker Dunham & husband, Kenny of Kinston, Christine Moody & husband, Larry of Morehead City, and Cheryl Johnson of Jacksonville. Son and business partner, Billy Lashley of the home, and Ronald Lashley & wife, Lee Ann of Great Falls, Montana. Ten Grandchildren, Jason & April Parker of Durham, David & Tara Parker of Holly Springs, Jennifer and Michael Fountain of Newport, Lynn & Donald Dare of Jacksonville, Charles Joseph "CJ" & Megan Pavy of Newport, Holly Kroft and Jamie Kroft of Jacksonville, Ronald Lashley Jr. serving in the USMC stationed in Iraq, Timothy Joel "TJ" & Alena Lashley of Great Falls, Montana; Fourteen Great Grandchildren, Austin Fountain, Derek Fountain, Dillon Fountain, Haleigh Pavy, Alyssa Hall, Scottie Smith Jr., Alyssa Fountain, Barbara Jean Kroft, Wyatt Parker, Cameron Pavy, Donald Dare Jr., Griffen Parker, Addison Pavy, and Emmalena Parker. Daddy has completed 2 Timothy 4:7: " I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home of Jacksonville.
