Fred Schuler, 92, Nortonville, KS
Our dad passed away Saturday, February 13, 2010. He was born January 12, 1918. He and his four brothers and two sisters grew up on a small farm near Nortonville. Their mother died at an early age. The older boys stayed on the farm to work the dry ground, and younger ones stayed in town with relatives. Dad served in the Second Marine Division during the war, and fought in Tarawa and Guadalcanal. After the war, he started a small cattle-hauling business that lasted 45 years. He was a familiar sight on the roads to St. Joseph, Kansas City, and Omaha in his trailer-truck anytime day or night. He was married to Marzella Wynn and they had six children. All grew up relatively healthy, and everyone a hard worker. Although he didn't want any of his kids to be a trucker, one did, and became an excellent partner. Treacherous roads and ornery bulls couldn't stop him, but Parkinson's Disease did. He was good-natured and uncomplaining until the end. His funeral will be Tuesday, Feb. 16, 11 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Nortonville, KS.
