CMRY: Sir I noted you had my late father PFC Johnnie T Colones From Selma, NC as being wounded on Iwo Jima ..in the third block of photos. I know he went back to the V-12 program at The University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after the war. Would like to know more as to where you found that IWO info on my father. He never talked about his war experiences. He pass in 1987 and is buried at The National Military Cemetery in Florence , SC A fine man indeed & so proud to have been a Marine !

Thank You!

Thomas, the information about your father being wounded on Iwo comes from the book that his picture was in. The late owner of the book kept track of what happened to his buddies by annotating information on or near their pictures.

If you would like more information about your father's service, I would suggest that you get in touch with the National Archives. You can request information from his service records there. http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrecs/index.html

Take care,
Nancy

Nancy, My take on the part you say is hard to read is below in CAPS with guesses in lower case:

KIA AT IWO
BRA(u/o?)(F/e/n{?}?)
(L/i?)(u/o)ESTER
WRIGHT

Hope this helps you out. If you have access to a black light you might try looking at the handwritten notes with that to see if there is any additional info to be gleened from the pics....
Could these three have been Battlefield Replacements that joined the unit in combat... ?????

After reading the information provided by Thomas, I rechecked the book and have decided that the information on the picture is "V-12" instead of "W-IJ". I have corrected the information posted here. My apologies for the mistake.
Nancy

Thank you so much for posting this! My maternal Grandfather is Robert A Patrick pictured here. I was able to pick him out immediately, even before I checked your list of names to be sure I was looking at the right row. He passed away 10/2/2007 of kidney failure.

Liz, Thomas-

My grandfather (step) was George Giadella, on the second page. He spent the Iwo battle on a hospital ship, but was present for the rest of the battles. Do either of you have more information on the when and wheres?

He was an honored guest at my PI graduation because of his record and awards, but I didn't think in my youth to ask for those records or the specifics. The only time he talked about it with me was when we were in the museum and we walked up on the 4th MarDiv exhibit.

Thanks,
Josh

Thank you for posting this! My father was Corporal Eugene C Roth. He was wounded on Saipan. I have his yearbook. I was trying to determine when it was printed, but there is no date that I can see. Individual pictures would have been taken between September 1943 and January 1944. There is a mention in the book of the 1st battle at Roi-Namur in February 1944, but no other battle, so the book must have been printed sometime after that.

I was also curious as to which Marine the book belonged to.

Thank you!
