Visitation from 9-11 a.m., with funeral services immediately following, on August 28, at Watkins Brothers Memorial Chapel. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. George was born on April 26, 1938, in Kansas City, Kan. He was the first born of Florine (Sadberry, Kline) Richardson and George Henry Kline Sr. George was blessed to share his life with seven siblings. Preceding the death of George was his father, George H. Kline Sr., brother James Lemore Kline, and sister Shirley Ann Offord. George had one union in his lifetime, to the former Hazel Lee Bell, from 1967 to 2001. George, a lifelong resident of KC, attended Northeast Junior High and graduated from Sumner High School in 1956. During his years at Sumner he excelled in math and science, later choosing Kansas City Kansas Junior College to further his education, majoring in pre-engineering. While at Sumner, George developed his lifelong passion for track and field. As a letter holder in the half-mile run, George would later share his passion with the young students growing up in the inner- city. He unselfishly devoted his spare time and expense to ensure these students had the opportunity to demonstrate their full potential in track and field, but more importantly, their sportsmanship and moral character. George continued serving his community as a volunteer coach for the girls volleyball and basketball teams at Blessed Sacrament and St. Martin de Porres schools. Other volunteer work includes: president of Bishop Helmsing Early Childhood Center School, asst. coach for the Kansas City North Stars girls track team, head track coach for the Kansas City Blazers, head track coach for the Kansas City Roadrunners, track coach at Park College, asst. track coach for the Kansas City Sprinters and asst. track coach at Raytown South High School.
George, who always reached out to serve others, joined the USMC in 1960 during the peak years of the Vietnam War. George served as headquarters battalion supply chief in Kansas City before being promoted to master sergeant and serving as the regimental armory chief for the 24th Marines, covering four states. Master Sgt. Kline retired from his beloved Marine Corps in 1984 with 24 years of distinguished service.
George was a devout Christian and Catholic who prayed daily. George leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Florine (Kline) Richardson, KC, Mo.; loving daughter, Tashia M. Kline, KC, Mo.; stepchildren Eileen Taylor, Edward Garrett, Roy Garrett, and Walter Meredith of KC, Mo., Tyrone Meredith, Killeen, Texas; brothers Don (Yaeko) Kline, King George, Va., Ronnie Pitchlyn, KC, Mo., Mark D. Kline, Atlanta, Ga.; sisters Frances (James) Robinson and Harriet Belcher, both of KC, Kan.; stepbrother Danny Kline and stepsisters Mona Boone, Lorraine Roland, Janice Keys, all of Tulsa, Okla.; uncle Tom Sadberry, Boston, Mass.; aunt Hazel Jackson, KC, Mo., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
