As a kid, my folks quietly instilled in us as what to do in case of a family, weather, or National emergency. That quiet confidence has never left my mind, nor any family member over the years. Yes, the actual "plans" have changed over the years, but the mind preparedness stays "ready to roll".
Having a meeting place, a "code word" to use amongst your family members, and added supplies are among the top of each list. The best part of any plan is having "Plan B"...what if you have to leave your home??...have a destination planned well in advance & make sure everyone knows EXACTLY where to go, and preferably by a motor vehicle.
The saying around our house was "a half a tank (of gas) is an empty tank." I've gotten to the point now, my gauge never goes below 3/4 filled.
During ANY emergency, having an advanced plan takes away a good hour of running around frantic wondering "what to do" and getting absolutely NO WHERE.
Sitting down with your family, going over difference scenarios that may occur, are both enlightening and smart as in doing so, you take much of the "fear factor" out of the picture. Great family STABILITY!!!
