So this is what the new O-Club looks like. I thought I would be just a little different.. But when we have white table cloths.. it must be good.

I assume the bar is open so a Marine can have a beer. Being a old Disbursing Officer.. I like to set over in the corner and count other people's money. We had very little of our own back 35 or 40 years ago. :(

I can still remember being a very poor farm boy who received his very first pair of "new" shoes when he went to boot camp. The Marine Corps took me under their power, trained me, educated me, and then called me a gentleman. They also gave me all the tools I needed for that life after duty.

The first time I walked into a O-Club I could not believe how nice it was. I was there that first time just to look. Had a beer and left. It was 4 years before I stepped inside a O-Club again. After that .. It was only for required events that I ever entered again.

In the past 30 years I have been in one O-Club, one time. The one at MCRD San Diego. I was there with the Gunner (if any of you remember him) a few months before he died.

Gary, Neil, and AJ I salute you for having such a fine web site.

Oh!!, Gary.. we did not ride horses.. we rode mules without a saddle.

A Disbursing Officer...the guy everybody loved and always tried to talk into buying the first round....and 2nd..and 3rd...LOL.

But I'll bet the NCO clubs were a lot more fun. I say this only because officers always have to keep that level of control that us nco's didn't seem to maintain.

That may be true in a lot of cases.... but I remember some R&Rs in Bangkok and Hong Kong where that wasn't the case....and many, many nites in a Chu Lai O Club where it was out the window....

Marines are still Marines....

but stateside was a different strory........

Now Gary,

That may be true in the OOOLD days...But lets move it up to 1989, or so and Liversedge Hall...We had a WM Capt Murdered...made a film out of it for TV... and A few Ambassadors got there whatever...(I will be nice).. (Also, if I rememer she was never found)... I testified in that trail and the Capt got life...(Also, no body was found).

I didn't see the forum heading or I wouldn't have jumped in here....Sorry.

But will leave Bob with this, YOU are correct sir, off base we all tried to keep our stuff together. Well maybe not so much on the rock (Oki) during my time (65 -68), we were all a bunch of roudy suckers. Even the officers from what I remember.

Bob.. Maybe we could have enlisted night.. That is common at the smaller O-Clubs .. just as the officers were welcome to go to the E-Club on officers night..

So, why don't we set up a enlisted night... like Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Then at closing time on Saturday.. we have all the enlisted... field day the O-Club. Then we kick them out so they can come back Sunday... If we have to put them through the window.. let's make sure it is open first. I sure hate to put money in to a collection box to pay for a new window.. when my wife was looking to buy a new dress..:cool:

You are right .. Bob.. No need to apologize for thatGyBill.. I have known that Gunny too many years to tell him something like that.. He would then think he did something right for a change. And he does get hard heard headed from time to time.

Another thing I was thinking of.. Maybe some one could correct me .. but I did not see any keep out signs on the front door and Gary Miller did say that everything in his forum was open.. and that everyone had to take their own chances.. Me.. I'm too old to be anything but open minded.

Just wandered in to check out the club. This one doesn't seem to have many members. That's okay. I don't care much for crowds.

PLC, summers of 63 and 65. Basic Class 4-66. Ft. Sill for Artillery Officers Basic Class. My 1966 Christmas present was the opportunity to FO for Lima 3/7 for about six months, including "vacationing" in sunny Duc Pho on Operation Desoto (26Jan-8Apr67)--the highlight of my tour.

I've been away for some time. Since I have my own forums to take care of .. Cpl Miller.. I just upgraded to a new server and now have the new RedHat Linux operating system. Lot's of new goodies .. and it sure the hell makes the new server fly.

The drinks are on the house tonight for the first 100 officers that come in and Cpl Miller is picking up the tab.

Hell .. with all of his money.. maybe it should be drinks on the house for the eclub to.:cool:

Not that Cpl Miller.. we are all over at the E-club in civvies.. eating pizza and drinking beer like all of those enlisted men.. I was a Sergeant once and I know what that feeling is.. We even get to look at their women.. But mind you .. just look.

There was a lot of times when I was a Second Lieutenant I had wished I was still a Sergeant.. I always thought I had more authority as a Sgt (E-5).
