View Full Version : who'd a thunk....
here I thought I was just sore from overusing some muscles at work the other night... turns out I was having a heart attack
am home from the VA now. doc says I need to start slowing down a bit and quit the ciggies.... :( further said it was a minor attack and the rest of my heart is lookin' good.
I'm looking forward to a nice, long hot shower.... and a decent night's sleep.

Aren't you a little young for that (Heart attack)? ha
I am sorry to hear this, you know my thought's and prayer's are with you. Let us know if there is anything you need ok?
Gary
thanks for your thoughts and prayers Gary.
as the Padre said when he visited me - "this was the warning shot across the bow." I can't be pushing it all the time, like when I was younger.
the doc couldn't put a stent in or use one of those balloon thingies to open up the artery some. they've got me on thinners hoping some of the blockage will dissolve. it's just a little thingy (blockage) in an awkward place (where the artery narrows and hooks up to something else). and the doc said that except for that my heart is lookin' good. they actually brought the sonogram machine into my room and let me watch while they checked my heart out. amazing!
am on No Duty for a week and have some meddies I have to keep taking. one of the meddies is designed to specifically slow my heart down. go for a check-up in a month. this will definitely be a lifestyle change. my sister's wondering what I'll be like going at 75 - 80% instead of 110%... hee, hee :GI9:

the slowing down part is better for you anyways, at least from the standpoint that you ACTUALLY get to take the time to smell the roses. You let us know if there is anything you need...OK

Made it through the first day back to work at both jobs okay. Was awfully tired last night when I got home, though.
Things seem to be going okay and the VA keeps calling at home to check on me. I have a follow-up appointment with them about a month from now.
Onward! :GI9:
after running into a few problems the past two weeks, I got in to see the cardiac doc today at the VA. He's ordered some "pictures" to be taken to try to clear up the major problem. Other than that, he cut three of my four prescriptions in half; told me that all the other arteries had looked fine when he did the heart cath; and, when pressed, said that I had less than a 10% chance of having another heart attack. But... if I ever have those same pains again for more than 15 minutes, I'm to get my butt to the ER. :GI9:
So... looks like I'll be around for a while; hopefully long enough to make it to retirement.;)

is OUTSTANDING news......I guess it means no more ruff sex???? ha ha
ruff what?? wait a minute... had a flashback... oh! now I get it!!:GI9:
of the original 4 prescriptions they gave me to take, two are at half-dose of the original prescription and the other two have been dropped completely. The lastest cancellation of a meddie came this past Monday. No more upset stomachs, etc., and my thinking processes seem to be clearer. Yay! :GI9:
see the heart doc early next month and still have to call in weekly BP readings to my regular doc's nurse.
time to try to catch up on some stuff... ;)

As I get older, I don't like the medical surprises I get. Last year, I decided I needed new eye glasses as it had been years since I went for an eye exam and my old glasses were no longer doing a good job. I decided to make an appointment with an eye doctor instead of going to one of those chain eye glass places. The eye doctor gave me a pretty complete eye exam. She then told me she saw evidence of a TIA and said I should make an appointment with my regular doctor to look into it. I ended up getting a brain scan and an ultrasound of my Carotid artery. The brain scan did show that I had experienced a TIA (Mini-stroke) recently. Thankfully the ultrasound showed that I had minimal blockage of my Carotid artery. I ended up having to take baby aspirin and blood pressure pills every day.
