I've posted this about every where I could. Just trying to get the word out. Not only did she go to the hospital, but just as she went a water line in her home broke flooding everything.
Members of the PGR are working on cleaning it up and repairing what they can.
Found this on several Areas thought I needed to pass this on here.
"My soul purpose is to try and figure out why Gunny Sergeant Helen A. Brusack has not been sent a get well card and or assistance from the Marine Corps League and the American Legion post 469, Yucca Valley, California and the Navy's Command Master Chief for the Southwest Region of the Navy's (619) 532-2264).
I spoke to the Assistant Master Chief of said same three weeks ago, and to this day, not even a Marine Chapin has visted the Gunny at Bal Boa, Hospital.
Gunny pulled through her health situation and is 84-years old, and once released in around a month via a resting area outside the hospital for several weeks prior to re- admittance, having been shuffled between Bal Boa and San Diego Rehab Institute in the last several months, will not be able to return to her home due to flooding the night she had to go to the hospital several months ago.
United Way (Darah Sweeden - 760-228-2716) is caring for her dog and has assured the members of her Desert Hills Presbyterian Church, Yucca Valley (760-365-6331), that they will assist her with a place to stay once discharged and if the Marine Commandant signs the order, a few Marines will help clean her now destroyed house up, yet there doesn’t seem to be any movement, now two and half months in the running.
The Gunny surprised everyone I guess, or prays’ from the faithful were heard and will be with us for years to come.
I’ve personally pledged $1,200.00 in which I’ve been allocating $105.00 a month to the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church and in December will make my final payment.
I’ve contacted the San Diego Tribune and many other local and national newspapers, to include XETV Fox 6, San Diego, California, yet no one seems to care with the exception of Church members of the Gunny, the United Way and a few good Marines who are willing to help but presently not allowed.
I’m frustrated for the lack of community involvement where the Gunny volunteered 40-years of service and 26-years in the Marines in service to her country in three wars, the latter two by some seen as conflicts.
The Gunny is broken hearted that the Marine Corps League and the American Legion post 469, Yucca Valley, California of which she’s a life time member not only didn’t offer her assistance several months ago upon request but that they haven’t even called her or sent her a get well card.
As of this minute, 1,010 views of the Gunny’s entire plight on XETV Fox 6 have been registered by who knows who, without any visible support.
Now I’ve searched the web and found several forums and if I have to I’ll keep posting and posting until someone can talk the walk.
Personally, I’m beginning to believe our Word War II Veterans are only honored once they pass away and while alive in need of emotional comforting and great need of assistance, there often over looked by the many.
If anyone can help, please do.
World War II Gunny GETS SOME HELP"
Will post her address and some pictures. She does not like flower prefers live plants. Just loves phone calls, most who have called get more out of the call than the Gunny does.

How to donate to the fund for her home.
Here is the information for anyone who wishes to contribute to this veterans rehabilitation of her residence. I have this day established at the Bank of America here in Yucca valley, an account for us to contribute to so we can help this veteran out. It is the ," Gny. Sgt. Helen A. Brusack Rehab Fund", any contributions will be sent to my home address for deposit into this account. Any contributions are not to be sent to me in my name, but sent to me made out to the fund above .
All proceeds will be used expressly for the rhabilitaion of this veteran's home and all remaining moneys will be turned over to her after repairs are made to her home.
The address that contributions are to be sent to is;
Ed Finch
3185 Avalon Ave.
Yucca Valley, Ca. 92284
Remember folks, any checks are to be made out to the fund, NOT TO ME!!!!!
Here is a chance to make a real difference in a WWII veterans life, please help in any way you can.
As soon as I can arrange it , I will ask for volunteers to meet at her place in Yucca valley to start the clean up and repairs.
Thank you brothers and sisters for any assistance you can provide.

Her address
GySgt Helen A. Brusack
c/o Continental Rehab Hospital
555 Washington St.
Room 422 Bed 2
San Diego, CA 92103

Now the AL and MCL have been blasted for not taking care of their own. She was a life member of both. Not sure if any more letters to them would do any good. Think it is best to just let the Gunny know how you feel and forget them.
Thanks for the heads up, GrumpyGy. Contact info noted. I will keep your efforts and the Gy's recovery in my prayers.

Thought I would add. She likes to wear sweats. At least to her rehab.
You can get a good set at Grunt.com
Here is what she told a Marine who is visiting her.
She did say she liked the full sweatsuit that someone anonamously sent her from the factory where it was made.....it brightened her world. It had embroidered USMC EGA on the top and USMC on the bottoms. Whoever it was, most likely on here, she thanks you!
They were just a Gray set nothing fancy.

the Gunny could use more than one set. I've reached out to Sgt Grit (Don) and asked if it's possible he can donate a set or we at YFP would be more than happy to purchase them and he can send them out.
She does not need to know where they came from other than Sgt Grits for all I care. It's about her needs, not our's if you know what I mean.

Cpl Miller Sgt Grit (Don) may not be able to come thru. I just hit him up for some Items for a veterans home visit At the Dalles Oregon on the 18th of Nov. He supplied us very well.

came in two forms, one was for a donation, two was the purchase of the sweats by YFP.
After I sent the email I went over to his forums and saw where you had posted over there as well. If I'd have done that first I am sure I would only have asked to purchase a set.
I'll cover this with Don when he emails me. Don is a good Marine, he'll do what he can I am sure.

No kidding on Don. He helps where he can.
It has also been suggested that anyone in the San Diego area might want to visit the Gunny on the 10th of Nov.
And here is an update on her house rehab.
"Day 2 at the Gunny rehab cleanup. Was another great day for the PGR. Again only PGR people and Tami is included in that statement.
We were able to finish up 95% of the dumpster cleanup. We emptied the Gunny's bedroom and took up about half of the old carpet in the house. We then proceeded to bug bomb the house with 12 cans of the stuff, and put out a lot of decon for our mice friends. Eat up little buddies.
Anyway a couple of days from now we can begin the real cleanning of her house. So I guess I will try to get somemore help for next weekend if anyone wants to lend a helping hand.
The Marine Corp League guys said they will try to get some furnishings, and we already have a refridgerater curtacy of ROCK. Thank you Brother. Donations are still needed as there will be some bathroom repair needed, some flooring to be put down. Painting will be needed as well and some roof coating would be great. So if anyone that can drum up some of that stuff, it would be great. I think I will have to replace some wood panneling in the front room with drywall as well.
But all in all not as bad as it seems at first glance . I want to take this oppertunity to thank all of you that have contributed to the Gunny's rehab effort, I know she would be happy with what we have done and will be doing.
THANK YOU ALL "

But because of the different forums now out there we can reach so many more Marines than we could then.
From what we could do then, think of the mountains we can now move.
But we were tight back then.

I'll post here.
Received an email from Don (Sgt Grit) this afternoon saying he would be glad to supply a set of sweats for the Gunny. He just needs to know what size, and where to send them.

And to you Don, we all thank you for your support and donation to this mission......You're one hell of a Marine in my book.

Well folks, here we are at the finale stages of the rehab. I wanted to give everyone a little update and show some of the progress that has been made.
First of all I want to again THANK everyone that has given of themselves in time , effort, and or money. This rehab could not have taken place without you all.
Please understand that this project is still not complete but it is close enough that the Gunny now has a home to come home to.
The floors will of course be the last thing to be done so the pic's wont show the flooring. The house has undergone quite a transformation. There is still lots of trim yet to be done, but the new Electrical panel will be complete and the power will be back on on friday.
The new front room furniture arrived today so it was placed inside for the pic's. A new vanity for the bathroom has been installed along with a new toilet, and new lighting. All the walls have been striped of wall paper and the wall naxt to the toilet has been repaired. New light switch with nite-lite, new GFI recepticle in the bathroom. The new walls have been primered and painted. The tub has a new hand rail for safety.
The bedrooms have been redone , the walls striped of wallpaper. Then primered and painted. A new single bed was obtained for her and a potty chair was placed next to her bed. Her computer stand is next to the dresser. New lite and lite swith with nite-lite installed in both bedrooms.
The kitchen has been renovated and cleaned. A new electric stove and hood, along with a nice working refrigerator has been installed. All the cabinents have been cleaned and new shelf paper placed in them.
Well I guess that is it for now. I am taking pictures to the Gunny tomorrow for her to see.
The house while not totally complete is a far cry from where it was when we got ahold of it. I sure hope the Gunny will like her new home. Cant wait for her home comming and the house warming party that we will have for her so she can meet all her new friends. You will all be invited to her new home when the time arrives. Also , I would like to have an escort from her facility to her new home when she is allowed to come home in early January, if any one would like to participate, please lets get together.
I love you all and Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for the Gunny.

Ten minutes ago the Gunny was delivered a fax with the final permitt signing off the house, offical address and hooked up with 911.
She will stay where she is until after the 5th due to x-mas and an appointment on the 5th. Ed visted her today and gave her the mail. Christmas cards she has received are from as far away as Iraq to Germany.
As I was writing this note, Ed called me from San Diego. His wife is presently driving him home.
Ed as you know made a PGR ride in San Diego today and then visted the Gunny. Around two hours ago, Ed was in an acident. At 50-miles an hour, a car pulled out in front of him and he hit the car, crashing, he woke up at the seen next to his bike with people standing around him, rushed to the ER and out the door after evualted with minor injuries.
His bike took the fall for him and he rode through.
He hasn't seen the bike since the acident, a little shhok up but in great shape considering the ordeal.
My dear Lord and God the Father, how thankful I'm am that your devine protection reached out to our brother. Amen.
