I noticed something on the latest Graduation photo

It was the graduation photo of the father of Bill Morris. In it, I see Rifle Expert badges and Rifle Sharpsooter badges. But, I don't see any (Pizza Box) Rifle Marksman badges. Instead, I see bars that I assume are for Rifle Marksman. As the photo is from 1949, when did they add the pizza box to the Rifle Marksman bar?

saw the same thing for WWII rifle shooting badges.

Found a book that probably has the answer, but it's not in my local library. Only two libraries I could find that have it - New Mexico State Library and the Tulsa City-County Library System. The book is: USMC Marksmanship Badges 1912- Present (D214.13:B14) published in 1982 by HQMC, History & Museum Division. The author is Michael D. Visconage.

Anyone out there that lives near one of these libraries??

If memory serves. The current Marksman badge came in about the same time that the Basic Badge was eliminated. That would have been around 1958. It's difficult to recall all the changes that were implemented during my time. I still have a Basic Badge. It's mounted in my "I Love Me" box.
