I noticed the photographer for the platoon pictures in the 50's and 60's was a J.F. Maag and in a lot of earlier ones it just say's Maag.
Anyone know if he was a civilian or Marine Corps photographer?

Looks like he spent a lot of time on the Island taking pictures, anbody have a picture of him?

Magg and his successors were employees or vendors of the MCX at Parris Island. Most were commercial enterprises that took the pictures like an Olan Mills. I wonder if there are any historical records like that out there??

Yes, I've noticed that too. He sure did a great job with the setup of the Platoons and shot with outstanding resolution! Crystal clear even when enlarging. Must have been a large format camera like an 8X10.

You don't see platoons pics like that anymore.
