Yesterday a young soldier turned himself into MPs at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He has been AWOL for 2 years, after returning froma tour in Iraq and receiving a Purple Heart for wounds recieved in combat.
He has lived the past two years in Canada, and reported his reasons for desertion were, among others, that he no longer supported the war.
The real sadness about this incident is that the Army has reported that he will be detained for 4 or 5 days while his paper work is prepared, and then be allowed to go home with a less than honorable discharge.
With a policy like this, it is a wonder that we have any one in the military. I wonder what ever happened to DESERTION IN TIME OF WAR.
