View Full Version : Co A, 7th Marines (undated)
The following series of pictures are of Company A, 7th Marines. The year is not known and there were no names associated with the picture. The picture was "advertised" as being from the late 1940's because of the Ike jackets worn by the Marines.
The overall length of the picture is 36", therefore I've broken it down into four sections so that the faces can be seen with some clarity.
This first picture shows a sergeant on the end of the first row with what appears to be "jump wings."

That picture was most likely at Camp Pendleton between late 1947 and late 1949. The clue is the designation 'A Co. 7th Mar'. Any other time it would have been A/1/7. During that period, the 6th and 7th Marines were Battalion Landing Teams within the 1stMarDiv. There were no regiments. In the fall of 1947 1/6 became BLT-6 and 2/6 I believe became BLT-7. I was in the 6th.
As an aside, Most of the Marines in the movie 'Sands of Iwo Jima' were from the 7th, but some of us from the 6th also took part.
Thank you so much for clarifying that for me.:)

You're welcome, Young Lady. Some of the information in this old Marine's Brain Housing Group is deeply hidden. A question or comment from a younger Marine often brings it out.
Just remembered. When the division was reorganized in '49. 6th Mar. became 1/5 and 7thMar became 2/5

CMYR,
Just took another look at the pics. Those probably are jump wings on the sgt. Since I believe the photo was taken sometime between 1947-1949, he seems to have enough ribbons to have served in WW2. Between Jan. 1947 and 1949, the only ribbons earned (as I recall) were China Service and Naval Occupation. He appears to have 1 hash-mark. Most likely got out after the war and came back in. I zoomed in, but not enough resolution.
GunnySan,
If I can find the picture, I'll rescan it to get a better resolution. I just can't figure out where I put the pick when I redid things around here a while ago....:o
Here you go, GunnySan.
Thanks for asking me to get a better pic. Because of that, I learned something new today about scanning these old yellowed pics! :)

How do you get the pics to show on the post? When I try to attach I get a link.
I use the Advanced Post option. Underneath the section where you write your reply is the Additional Options section. There you find the "Manage Attachments" button to click on. A separate screen comes up and you use the "Browse" part to add your pic. You browse and select where you want to load the picture from and then click on the Upload button. After the upload is complete, the picture name will appear about halfway down the screen. Then you Close This Window and click on the "Submit Reply" button near the bottom of the screen.
I transfer all of my pics off of my computer (My Pictures) to a memory stick. Then I plug the memory stick into the computer hard drive and "browse" there (use that) for attaching the pics to the website.
Hope this helps you some.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot when I have a small enough pic. The 100MB limit is difficult. Have to scan at very low Rez and crop.
