View Full Version : Platoon Leaders Course, PISC, 1951
In the summer of 1951, college students who voluntarily enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve for the Platoon Leaders Course, arrived at Parris Island to attend the Junior Course of their training. They would hold the rank and pay grade of corporal. This six-week period of instruction would be a screening process with an ultimate goal of eliminating those found to lack the qualities desired in a Marine officer. During the six-weeks of training, specialized instruction was given in weapons and in tactics/techniques of the rifle squad. Two weeks are spent in instruction and range firing with the M-1 rifle, the Browning automatic rifle, the carbine and the pistol.
Upon successful completion of the Junior Course of training, the graduates would return the following summer for the Senior Course of their training. Upon successful completion of the Senior Course, they would be commissioned as second lieutenants in either the U. S. Marine Corps or U. S. Marine Corps Reserve.
