How can I find out my uncle's platoon number?

I have a lot of information about John W. Fossum, but not his platoon number. I would love to get his platoon photo...He was KIA at Iwo Jima. I have his redacted service record. He was with
H company, 3rd battalion, 26th Marine, 5th Marine Div at the time of his death. Would he have platoon photos taken with every platoon he was with? Or just when he was first inducted?

About all I can help you with regarding your uncle's platoon number at graduation is to let you know that platoon numbers are not listed in the service records of recruits when they graduate from boot camp. The reason the platoon number is not recorded is because a recruit can be dropped from training or recycled right up to or on graduation day.
